Adidas Terrex Agravic XT Gore-Tex

Jeff Dangate:

Wondering about the “345” branded on the tongue of the men’s shoe, “295” on the women’s? Adidas is taking a page out of Inov-8’s playbook by slapping the shoe’s weight (in grams) visibly on the shoe.

Boost has been found across Adidas’s road line for six years now. It’s a heavier material than the standard EVA that had been used in running shoes for decades, but we’ve found the trade-off worth it for the extra cush and spring the material delivers. It’s that same sensation we get here, when we hit the dirt. The thin layer of Boost is adequate to give you a lively step, and it’s combined with a frame of EVA that wraps around the top of the midsole, lending you some stability—the Boost, by itself, can be squishy and feel unstable on uneven ground.

With a big, yellow Continental logo on the sole, the shoe boasts its exceptional traction. And that’s what we found: The shoe delivers big-time on technical terrain. Testers raved about the grip in all conditions and the rubber’s durability.

The Gore-Tex lining in the inside is of the traditional variety, not the “Invisible Fit” we’ve seen rolled out to other performance shoes like the Salomon Sense Ride GTX. Invisible Fit uses fewer layers by bonding the waterproof barrier directly to the upper’s fabric, eliminating bunching and improving the fit. Even so, wear-testers didn’t report any issues with the fit of this shoe. The only knock is that when water does get in, it can’t get out.

In fact, this feels more like the original Energy Boost than anything else which begs the question as to why mess with a good thing?
